Defending champions East Bengal FC made a strong start to their MG Indian Super League 2026-27 campaign with a 4-0 win over Churchill Brothers at the PJN Stadium on Sunday.

Dani Ramírez opened the scoring early before Edmund Lalrindika doubled the lead before half-time. Substitute Bipin Singh then scored twice in the closing stages to complete East Bengal’s biggest win of the season so far.

East Bengal took the lead in the second minute.

Ramírez stepped up for a free-kick just outside the penalty area and curled a left-footed effort into the top-left corner to give the visitors an ideal start.

Churchill Brothers responded with urgency and tried to push forward in search of an equaliser. The hosts increased the tempo and created a few promising openings.

They also came close to scoring when an effort struck the woodwork, but East Bengal stayed organised at the back and protected their advantage.

The Torchbearers doubled their lead towards the end of the first half.

David Hmar received the ball on the left and held it up before finding Edmund Lalrindika, who made a well-timed run into the box and finished past Sayad Kadir.

The goal sent East Bengal into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Both sides created chances after the restart, but Churchill Brothers struggled to make their opportunities count in the final third.

East Bengal remained composed and comfortable with their two-goal advantage.

Antonio Habas introduced Bipin Singh in the second half, and the substitute made a major impact.

Bipin scored in the 85th minute with a curling effort into the top corner to make it 3-0.

He struck again five minutes later.

PV Vishnu delivered a cross from the left and Bipin finished to complete his brace and seal the 4-0 victory.

The result gave East Bengal a convincing start to their title defence.

Churchill Brothers, who had opened their season with a 2-1 win over Mumbai City FC, will now look to respond when they face Punjab FC next.
