Chikitha Taniparthi has made history in Indian archery as the first Indian woman compound archer to win an Individual Junior World title at the World Archery Youth Championships 2025 held in Winnipeg, Canada. The 20 year old sensation did this phenomenal feat by defeating Korea's Yerin Park 142-136 in the gold medal final of compound U-21 women on Saturday.
Taniparthi's path to glory was nothing short of spectacular during the championship. She first beat her compatriot and top seed Parneet Kaur for a spot in the semifinals, showing her mental strength by beating an Indian counterpart. Her semifinal display was as overwhelming, where she overwhelmed Spain's Paula Diaz Morillas with a resounding 142-133 victory to seal a spot in the final.
The past against South Korea's Yerin Park was a spectacle of shooting, where both compound archers showed peak proficiency. Taniparthi's winning score of 142 was a testament to her skill in keeping rhythm and reaching the target even when under conditions of pressure, an historic first for Indian women's compound archery.
This was accomplished at India's best performance in the World Youth Championships when India bagged numerous gold medals. Indian compound men teams for U-18 as well as U-21 also clinched world championships, since the U-21 team defeated Germany by a heart thumping shoot off.
Taniparthi's victory is adding to India's growing reputation in compound archery, following the earlier success of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, the first Indian women's archer to win a personal medal for herself in the women's compound event at the World Archery Championships in 2019. With this record smashing triumph, Taniparthi has set a new benchmark for Indian women's compound archers and opened the door for a future generation of archers.
