Punjab FC kicked off their 134th IndianOil Durand Cup campaign in dramatic fashion, edging out Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC 2-1 at the SAI Stadium. The ISL outfit left it late, with goals from Pramveer (73’) and Konsam Sanathoi Singh (90+2’) cancelling out an opener from Karbi’s Joseph Olaleye (69’) to claim three vital Group D points.

Karbi Anglong, playing their final match of the campaign, gave the Shers a scare with Olaleye lobbing a beautiful finish past Ravi Kumar. But Punjab responded with intent and precision. Just four minutes later, a pinpoint corner found Pramveer, who rose highest to nod home the equaliser.

The drama continued into injury time. Substitute Uvais sent in a brilliant cross that met Konsam Singh unmarked inside the box. His volleyed finish in the 92nd minute sealed the win for Panagiotis Dilmperis’ youthful side, who had earlier missed several chances and even survived a missed penalty.

Karbi Anglong’s campaign ends without a win but full of heart. For Punjab FC, this was the kind of gritty start that builds momentum in tournaments. Their next challenge? A clash with ITBP FT on August 6.
