Punjab FC started their AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Gokulam Kerala at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa on Monday, October 27, 2025. The Shers controlled the match from start to finish, securing all three goals in the opening half to set the tone for a comprehensive win.
The hosts struck within two minutes when Muhammad Suhail's cross from the left flank took a deflection off Gokulam defender Gursimrat Singh and nestled into the net. It was an unfortunate start for the Malabarians, who barely had time to settle into their rhythm before falling behind. Punjab doubled their advantage in the 11' through a set piece. Nikhil Prabhu rose above his marker to meet a corner kick from Princeton Rebello and directed a firm header into the bottom corner. The Punjab midfield was operating with confidence and composure, controlling the tempo of the game and dictating play against their former I-League rivals. Gokulam attempted to respond through Samuel Lyngdoh on the right wing, and they came close in the 28' when Eduardo Martinez's free kick struck the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten. However, Punjab sealed the victory before halftime. In the 43', Suhail laid off the ball to Rebello at the top of the box, and the latter unleashed a right footed shot that found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The second half saw a more determined Gokulam Kerala, with substitutes Juan Carlos Rico Azorin and Alfred Moya attempting to spark a comeback. Punjab goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh made two crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet and keep his side ahead. Gokulam's task became impossible in the 85' when Trijoy Dias received a straight red card for a reckless high boot challenge. Playing with ten men ended any hopes of a memorable comeback for the Malabarians.
With this emphatic win, Punjab FC announced their intentions in the tournament, while Gokulam Kerala faces an uphill battle in their remaining group matches.
