Mumbai City FC delivered a commanding performance to defeat Sporting Club Delhi 4-1 in the Group D opener of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa on Monday, October 27. The Islanders showcased their attacking prowess with three goals in the first half to establish complete control over the contest.
The breakthrough came in the 6' when Lallianzuala Chhangte delivered a free kick from the right flank. Tiri provided a clever headed assist inside the box that found Jorge Pereyra Diaz, who controlled the ball smoothly past SC Delhi goalkeeper Karanjit Singh. Mumbai City doubled their lead through Vikram Partap Singh in the 10'. The forward latched onto a Jon Toral ball on the overlap and curled a stunning strike into the top corner. The Islanders continued their dominance and added a third goal in the 32'. Vikram surged down the left flank and slid a cross from the by line. Karanjit pushed it away, but Jorge Ortiz reacted quickest to bundle the ball home and make it 3-0.
SC Delhi offered little resistance in the opening half but showed improved resolve after the interval. The Red Brigade came close in the 73' when a corner from Ayush Adhikari missed Alex Saji's head by inches. A minute later, Adhikari made a driving run from the left flank into the box and was brought down by Dhruv Alva. Andrei Alba converted the resulting penalty in the 75' to score SC Delhi's first ever goal. Mumbai City added a fourth goal deep in stoppage time. Vikram raced forward after receiving a through ball from Brandon Fernandes and fired a fierce shot that rattled the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line to complete his brace.
The victory underscores Mumbai City's attacking capability and squad depth as they begin their Super Cup campaign on a strong note. SC Delhi, meanwhile, will need to address their defensive vulnerabilities if they are to challenge for progression in the tournament.
