The Mariners made a confident start with Manvir Singh giving them the lead in the 24th minute, rising highest to head home a pinpoint cross from 18-year-old Thangjam Roshan Singh. Despite numerous chances, they went into halftime with just a one-goal advantage.
BSF FT, meanwhile, missed opportunities to punish defensive lapses. Kishori had three decent chances but failed to find the target.
Jose Molina's halftime changes brought instant results. Liston Colaco doubled the lead in the 52nd minute following a quick pass from Sahal Abdul Samad. Four minutes later, Liston dazzled with stepovers and beat the keeper at the near post to complete his brace.
Sahal added his name to the scoresheet in the 59th minute, skillfully rounding the goalkeeper before scooping his shot over the line. He nearly added a second shortly after, rattling the crossbar with a powerful strike.
Despite controlling possession and creating more chances, Bagan couldn’t add further to their tally. BSF tightened their defense late on, and goalkeeper Harpreet Singh denied Alberto Rodriguez in added time.
The Mohun Bagan Durand Cup campaign continues on August 9th with a high-stakes clash against group leaders Diamond Harbour FC — a fixture that will decide the quarterfinalists from Group B.
