Jamshedpur FC fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against NorthEast United FC in their second Group B match of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 at the GMC Stadium on Wednesday, October 29. The result leaves both sides frustrated as their semi final qualification hopes hang in the balance.
NorthEast United made the stronger start in rain soaked conditions, with Parthib Gogoi forcing an early save from Jamshedpur goalkeeper Albino Gomes in the 2'. The Highlanders broke the deadlock in the 20' when a long throw into the box caused confusion. Chema Nunez reacted quickest to a rebound after Jairo Samperio's effort struck the crossbar to give NorthEast the lead. The visitors doubled their advantage nine minutes later through a moment of brilliance. Nunez lofted a delightful pass over the Jamshedpur defence for Alaaeddine Ajaraie, who made no mistake with his left footed volley to make it 2-0. Facing elimination, Jamshedpur responded with greater intensity and found their breakthrough just before halftime. Pronay Halder rose highest to meet Rei Tachikawa's corner and headed the ball home with authority to halve the deficit.
The second half remained tense as both teams competed for control in difficult weather conditions. NorthEast looked more composed and created several chances, but Nunez, Ajaraie, and Andy Rodriguez all failed to convert opportunities that could have sealed the match. Jamshedpur continued to press as the game progressed. In the 85', Pratik Chowdhury's curling attempt was tipped onto the crossbar by NorthEast goalkeeper Gurmeet. The Red Miners' persistence paid off in the 89' when a long ball from midfield found Raphael Messi Bouli ghosting past the NorthEast backline. The forward guided his header into the far corner to level the scores at 2-2.
With one point each from this draw, both teams' semi final prospects remain uncertain. NorthEast United sits second in Group B with two points from three matches, while Jamshedpur has one point from two games and remains in third place. Their advancement depends on results in other fixtures, including FC Goa's match against Inter Kashi.
