The Indian Men’s Hockey Team finished their FIH Pro League 2024–25 (Men) campaign on a high note, as India beat Belgium 4–3 in a thrilling encounter in Antwerp on Sunday. It was a display of grit and character as the visitors came from behind twice to clinch a dramatic victory against the Olympic champions.
Sukhjeet Singh led from the front with two crucial goals (21’, 35’) on a day that also marked his 100th international appearance, alongside forward Dilpreet Singh. Amit Rohidas (36’) and Harmanpreet Singh (59’) were also on the scoresheet for India, while Belgium responded through Arthur de Sloover (8’), Thibeau Stockbroekx (34’), and Hugo Labouchere (41’).
Belgium started the match on the front foot, pressing high and forcing errors from the Indian backline. Their intent paid off early when Arthur de Sloover unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner to put the hosts ahead in the eighth minute. India, although shaken by the early goal, maintained composure and began to settle into the contest with disciplined possession and fast transitions.
India found their rhythm in the second quarter, and their efforts bore fruit when Sukhjeet finished a flowing move to level the scores. However, Belgium retook the lead early in the third quarter through Stockbroekx. But India responded swiftly — Sukhjeet scored again within a minute to draw level at 2–2, followed closely by Amit Rohidas giving India the lead for the first time in the 36th minute.
The hosts equalised yet again through Labouchere in the 41st minute, making it 3–3 heading into the final stretch. With both teams pushing for a winner, it was captain Harmanpreet Singh who delivered the decisive moment in the 59th minute, converting under pressure to seal the game.
The result saw India finish the Pro League season in eighth place, well ahead of Ireland, and ending on a note that reflected both resilience and growth. The match also served as a milestone celebration for Sukhjeet and Dilpreet Singh, both completing 100 international caps.
