FC Goa booked their place in a third AIFF Super Cup final after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mumbai City FC in an intense semi-final clash at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
Despite early adversity, the defending champions showed grit and composure as first-half strikes from Brison Fernandes (20’) and David Timor (23’) proved decisive. Mumbai City FC pulled one back through Brandon Fernandes in the 59' but ultimately fell short, exiting at the semi-final stage for the third consecutive season.
The drama began even before the whistle when FC Goa skipper Iker Guarrotxena was sent off for an altercation in the tunnel. Javier Siverio was drafted into the lineup moments before kickoff. However, the setback only strengthened the Gaurs’ resolve.
In the 20', Manolo Márquez’s men capitalized on defensive confusion from Mumbai’s Rubio. His failed clearance allowed Brison Fernandes to pounce, unleashing a powerful left-footed shot that beat Phurba Lachenpa at his near post.
Barely three minutes later, Goa doubled their advantage in stunning fashion. David Timor’s speculative long-range drive slipped through Lachenpa’s grasp, looping awkwardly into the net to make it 2-0. Fatorda erupted as Goa tightened their control, while Mumbai looked unsettled.
Goa nearly extended their lead before halftime when Timor’s curling free-kick drew a brilliant save from Lachenpa, who also denied Borja Herrera on the rebound. At the other end, Jorge Pereyra Díaz struck the crossbar, reminding everyone that Mumbai still posed a threat.
The Islanders came out revitalized after the break and were awarded a penalty in the 52' when Hrithik Tiwari brought down Pereyra Díaz. However, Lallianzuala Chhangte squandered the chance, blasting his effort over the bar.
Mumbai’s persistence eventually paid off in the 59'. Pereyra Díaz found Brandon Fernandes, who coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner despite slipping mid-shot. The goal reignited hopes for a comeback.
The final half-hour saw Mumbai City relentlessly chase an equalizer, with Chhangte and Díaz both testing Tiwari, but the young goalkeeper stood tall. Goa’s disciplined defense absorbed the pressure and held on to secure their spot in Sunday’s final against East Bengal.
