FC Goa began their AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 title defence with a 2-0 victory over Jamshedpur FC in a Group B encounter at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday. Goals from Javier Siverio and Dejan Dražić either side of half time secured a deserved win for the defending champions.
Heavy rains lashed the venue throughout the evening and heavy downpours delayed the second half kick off by 24 minutes. Despite the challenging conditions, FC Goa displayed the composure and authority that made them champions last season to send a clear message to their rivals.
The match was a rematch of last season's Super Cup final where FC Goa defeated Jamshedpur 3-0. Jamshedpur hoped for revenge but despite moments of promise, they could not impose themselves on the contest.
Both sides struggled to adapt to the sodden pitch which had puddles forming everywhere. The wet conditions killed the bounce of the ball and made every pass uncertain. Neither team was willing to overcommit early in the match. FC Goa gradually found their rhythm and created the first chance when Borja Herrera tried a clever curling corner from the right. Goalkeeper Albino Gomes was forced to tip the ball over the bar. That early opportunity gave the Gaurs confidence to settle into their passing game. Herrera, Siverio and Udanta combined neatly to create openings while their defence remained alert to Jamshedpur's counter-attacks. Jamshedpur's best chance came midway through the first half. A goalmouth scramble left Eric Messi Bouli unmarked inside the box. He had time and space to pick his spot but shot straight at FC Goa goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari, squandering their best opportunity. FC Goa broke the deadlock in the 45'. Udanta Singh floated in a free kick which was flicked on by Ayush Dev Chhetri, and Siverio timed his run perfectly to meet it with a powerful header.
When play resumed after the weather delay, the rain eased but FC Goa's grip on the match only tightened. They doubled their advantage in the 66' when Herrera delivered a corner from the left. David Timor Copovi rose highest to power a header against the crossbar and Dražić smashed in the rebound volley to make it 2-0. Jamshedpur pushed forward searching for a goal but FC Goa's backline remained compact and organised to seal a convincing victory in difficult conditions.
