East Bengal FC secured their place in the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 semi finals after a goalless draw with Mohun Bagan Super Giant at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. Both teams finished Group A with five points each, but East Bengal's superior goal difference from their 4-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC proved decisive.

The encounter showcased defensive organization rather than attacking flair. East Bengal FC, needing only a draw to progress, played with controlled discipline, while Mohun Bagan Super Giant pressed for the win that would have kept their tournament hopes alive. The Kolkata Derby under Goan conditions reflected the high stakes at play.

East Bengal FC began assertively from the opening moments. In the second minute, Rakip won possession from Anirudh Thapa on the right flank and found Miguel, whose shot faced a block from Mohun Bagan Super Giant's defence. Hamid Ahadad tested goalkeeper Vishal Kaith in the 9' after receiving a through ball from Basim Rashid, but his cross went straight to the keeper. East Bengal FC created the match's clearest opportunities during the first half. Bipin Singh met a Miguel cross in the 24', but his header struck the post. Later, Naorem Mahesh Singh's acrobatic attempt from Saúl Crespo's delivery sailed high over the bar. East Bengal's width consistently troubled Mohun Bagan Super Giant's defensive setup throughout the opening period.

After the interval, Mohun Bagan Super Giant emerged with greater urgency. Apuia's delivery found Liston with a looping header that narrowly cleared the crossbar. Around the hour mark, Hamid Ahadad nearly broke the deadlock when he latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty area, but Vishal Kaith's strong hands kept the scoreline level. As the match progressed, East Bengal deliberately controlled the tempo, maintaining possession and shape to absorb Mohun Bagan Super Giant's increasing pressure. The hosts threw numbers forward in the closing stages, with Subhasish Bose and Manvir Singh leading late attacks, but East Bengal FC's organized defence remained resolute throughout.

When the final whistle sounded, East Bengal's camp erupted in celebration. Their disciplined performance earned qualification. For Mohun Bagan Super Giant, the draw meant elimination, their tournament ending in frustration rather than defeat.
