Two teams. Two perfect starts. One decisive clash.
A new derby is brewing in Bengal football. Mohun Bagan Super Giant are set to lock horns with debutants Diamond Harbour FC, who are hungry to make their mark in their very first Durand Cup season.
The Mariners have been dominant so far, edging Mohammedan SC in the opener before cruising past BSF FT. But they won’t be at full strength as defender Dippendu is out after picking up yellow cards in both games. The good news for them is the return of Apuia, who has served his one-match suspension. All eyes will also be on Aussie star Dimitri Petratos, who has just landed in Kolkata and looked sharp in training. A surprise appearance could be on the cards.
On the other side, Diamond Harbour FC have hit the ground running with back-to-back wins, including a last-minute winner against Mohammedan and an 8-1 demolition of BSF FT. They have no injury or card worries, and their strike force is firing — Luka Majcen is looking sharp, while Clayton Silva found his form in style with four goals and two assists in their last outing.
We caught up with Clayton before today’s practice session, where he appeared confident and eagerly awaiting the challenge of facing Mohun Bagan. (Video below)
With Group B leadership at stake, this clash promises intensity, goals, and a fierce new rivalry.
