Local favourites Bodoland FC opened their account in the 134th IndianOil Durand Cup 2025 with a well-earned 2-1 victory over newcomers Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in a tightly contested Group D encounter at the SAI Stadium on Thursday.

Karbi Anglong took the lead in the 25th minute through Nigerian forward Joseph Mayowa Olaleye, who capitalised on a long ball from goalkeeper Wellyster Mendes. The striker outpaced the Bodoland defence and calmly slotted the ball into the near post to put the debutants ahead.

However, the lead was short-lived. Just twelve minutes later, Bodoland found their equaliser when Gwgwmsar Gayary finished from close range after a spell of sustained pressure from the home side.

The second half saw Bodoland continue to grow into the game. Their persistence paid off at the hour mark when Colombian striker Robinson latched onto a loose ball inside the box and slotted it past the keeper to give the hosts the lead.

Despite a few late pushes from Karbi Anglong, Bodoland held firm to seal their first win of the tournament. The result keeps Group D wide open with crucial fixtures ahead.
