The Indian Women’s Hockey Team suffered a 0–2 loss to Belgium in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024–25 on Sunday. Despite starting strong and showing attacking intent, India failed to score, while Belgium took their chances in the third quarter.
India looked determined after their heavy loss the day before. They attacked early, won a penalty corner in the first quarter, and kept Belgium under pressure. A potential penalty stroke awarded to Belgium was overturned after India used a successful video referral, and the quarter ended without goals.
In the second quarter, India continued to push forward. Captain Salima Tete led the attack, and India made more circle entries. Both teams had their chances, but the first half ended 0–0.
The game changed in the third quarter. Belgium scored twice in quick succession. In the 40th minute, Ambre Ballenghien scored from a rebound after a penalty corner. Just three minutes later, Lien Hillewaert deflected in a second goal from another set-piece, giving Belgium a 2–0 lead.
India tried to respond but struggled to convert their chances. In the final quarter, Deepika, Jyoti, Salima, and Navneet worked hard to create opportunities, but Belgium defended well. India made 22 circle entries, matching Belgium, but couldn’t find the net.
With only two wins this season, India now face the risk of relegation. They will need strong performances against China next weekend to stay in the league.
